Lianbaoyeze is granite in spires rather than in ridges: packed side by side along the valley wall, grey over olive grass, with the cloud sitting on them. Gahai was shallow water read as a surface; this is stone, and the day is mostly the wall of it, the valley under the wall, and the green lake at the bottom of the valley with the road winding down to it. The water I kept is the lake at the foot of the pass, still enough that morning to hold the ridge in it upside down - printed here as a blueprint, which is the process that was invented for water and sky. In the afternoon the light went under the storm and the peaks turned into a silhouette with the sky doing all the work, and a bird crossing it.
莲宝叶则是长成尖的石头，不是长成脊的：一根挨一根挤在谷壁上，灰的压在橄榄绿的草上，云搁在上面。尕海是把浅水当成一面读的，这里是石头。这一天大半是那面石壁、壁下的谷，和谷底那个绿湖，以及盘下去的路。水留下来的是垭口下那片湖，早上静得能把整条山脊倒着装进去——这里印成蓝晒，那本来就是为水和天发明的工艺。下午光被风暴收走，山变成一道剪影，天在做所有的活，一只鸟从中间飞过去。
